John Awuah

John has a proven executive management track record for two decades driving corporate growth programmes across various functional areas in the financial services sector. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK) with several years post qualification and many years of relevant senior management experience. He holds Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Coast (Ghana) with first class honours. MBA from Oxford Brookes University, UK. He has two decades workexperience in the areas of  corporateStrategy in stable and turnaround environments, balance sheet management, client relationship management, financial control, regulatory reporting, credit control, taxation, financial accounting, business partnering and business analytics. John was until recently, ChiefExecutive Officer ofUniversal Merchant Bank (UMB) where he led the transformation of the bank from consistently recording losses for many years into profitability in less than eighteen months into the role. As the Chief Finance Officer of GCB Bank, John was instrumental in the corporate turn-around and Institutional transformation of the Bank. Before joining GCB Bank, He was the Group Chief Finance Officer of Ecobank Capital where he had oversight responsibility for the Finance Functions of seven countries and spearheaded relationship with Regulators and Corporate Strategy in the Investment Banking arm of the EcobankGroup. As the Chief Finance Officer of United Bank for Africa Ghana Ltd (UBA), John spearheaded the set-up and operations of the finance function of the bank and led the bank’s green field operations including aggressive branch rollout strategy. As Financial Controller of Barclays Bank of Ghana, John played a key role in the successful corporate turnaround of the bank; migrating it from a loss making entity in 2008 to the number one bank (in terms of profitability) in 2011.
